We have put Ste\u00adphan Medem, our A\u2011le\u00advel-coach in the hot seat and asked some quick fire questions.<\/p>\n

What is Your cur\u00adrent work in pro\u00adgress?<\/strong> I work with a few pro\u00admi\u00adsing and very deter\u00admi\u00adned young play\u00aders and orga\u00adni\u00adze men\u00adtal work\u00adshops and one-on-one men\u00adtal ses\u00adsi\u00adons to help ath\u00adle\u00adtes maxi\u00admi\u00adze their per\u00adfor\u00admance. I also do inde\u00adpen\u00addent scou\u00adting work with play\u00aders, coa\u00adches and par\u00adents. I will relaunch my first book \u00bbplay\u00adGirl\u00ab with a pre\u00adface from Ger\u00adman Fed Cup cap\u00adtain Bar\u00adba\u00adra Ritt\u00adner in April 2016, and hope to finish my second book some\u00adwhe\u00adre in 2016.<\/p>\n

How did You begin coa\u00adching pro play\u00aders? How long have You been coa\u00adching?<\/strong> I was still on the pro tour when some of the youn\u00adger play\u00aders star\u00adted approa\u00adching me to help their game. Somehow\u2026 it work\u00aded. After finis\u00adhing my pro\u00adfes\u00adsio\u00adnal care\u00ader, I wan\u00adted to dedi\u00adca\u00adte more time to the stu\u00addies of men\u00adtal tough\u00adness in ten\u00adnis and pass on my know\u00adledge to other peo\u00adp\u00adle, not only in sports.<\/p>\n

What keeps You moti\u00adva\u00adted to come to work each day and keep coa\u00adching through the years?<\/strong> I love working with peo\u00adp\u00adle! I love hel\u00adping them, fol\u00adlo\u00adwing their pro\u00adgress. The fact that I am an import part of their suc\u00adcess makes me very happy.<\/p>\n

What skills\/characteristics do You look for in your play\u00aders?<\/strong> I look for moti\u00adva\u00adti\u00adon! I think talent is high\u00adly over\u00adra\u00adted. I always pre\u00adfer working with a play\u00ader who is bur\u00adning with the desi\u00adre to be the best he\/she can be, to coope\u00adra\u00adting with a play\u00ader with talent.<\/p>\n

What is the big\u00adgest chall\u00adenge You\u2019\u00adve had as a coach and how did You over\u00adco\u00adme it?<\/strong> Fun\u00adny enough, the big\u00adgest chall\u00adenge in my coa\u00adching care\u00ader were not play\u00aders, but their par\u00adents. Some of them approach coa\u00adches with wrong moti\u00adves and ide\u00adas. To advi\u00adse them how to sup\u00adport their kids right, not just with their money but also with their emo\u00adti\u00adons and actions, can drain your energy.<\/p>\n

What is Your most suc\u00adcessful coa\u00adching moment so far?<\/strong> I don\u2019t like to put my fin\u00adger on a sin\u00adgle event. Every time one of my stu\u00addents achie\u00adves a goal, she\/he thought was impos\u00adsi\u00adble (over\u00adco\u00admes fears, works hard and disci\u00adpli\u00adned, steps out of the com\u00adfort zone!), I have a fee\u00adling of success.<\/p>\n

What advice would You give to new coa\u00adches?<\/strong> I would advi\u00adse them not to work too much. A good coach has to be ener\u00adge\u00adtic, alert and awa\u00adre, to stay in good shape and live healt\u00adhy. Our job as role models can not be unde\u00adre\u00adsti\u00adma\u00adted. They should never ever stop lear\u00adning, as ever\u00ady\u00adthing is in pro\u00adgress and evo\u00adlu\u00adti\u00adon, other\u00adwi\u00adse you can easi\u00adly lose touch. Respect, under\u00adstand and reco\u00adgni\u00adze Your play\u00ader, try to see eye to eye.<\/p>\n

What inspi\u00adres Your work?<\/strong> As a kid, I always wan\u00adted to be a tea\u00adcher and I ended up as a stu\u00addent of edu\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon. But tea\u00adching math, histo\u00adry and geo\u00adgra\u00adphy somehow did not make me happy.<\/p>\n

What is Your next coa\u00adching goal?<\/strong> I want to get the best out of whoe\u00adver choo\u00adses to work with me now and in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
